Why this section is important
We are all inspired by true design. Something that someone thought about, and created something unique, dynamic, and impactful. Whether it is a building, an automobile, an appliance, a home, or a specific piece of art. Fantastic design is everywhere, if you are willing to look. All pictures herein, unless noted, are personally taken and curated by Staff. All pictures, photographs, renderings and art are copyrighted material. We experiment and utilize all types of media in our portfolios. While some may think the camera on, say an iPhone, is not a true camera, we feel differently. Although we have a deep favoritism of film cameras and quality lenses, we also recognize the value of all types of styles and flavors of photography. You will see examples of film photography, including examples of 35mm, 127, 126, 120 and 620, on all types of cameras from the Dutch Collection. Instant film cameras from Polaroid and Fuji can be fascinating as well. With cameras such as "peel apart film cameras" from Polaroid, including Colorpacks, 440, 450, and many others. Instant film cameras such as the SX70, 600 series, and others. Instax from Fuji as well. We also are quite interested in what is now "retro modern" photography, using electronic devices from Nikon, Sony, and others. For motion picture lovers, we will be exploring with 8mm, Super8mm, Video, and 16mm. Each photo will contain information of the type of camera used, and when possible, type of film and camera used.

Below: Here are two shots of the once-exquisite Brea Art Gallery and Civic Center, Brea California. These were shot by Dutch in 1981. Camera: Nikon FM with 28mm Lens. Film: The wonderful--and sadly no longer made--Kodak Plus X Pan.

Below is the same shot, very much near the same, position, shot with an Apple iPhone. Shot July 2026. A daylight shot, even if the building was in better shape, cannot compete with the magic of a literally perfect time lapse shot. However, this went from an architectural wonder to a ghastly affair at worst, and at best, a nondescript, busy eyesore. Some really disgusting individual thought it was a good idea to bolt SOLAR PANELS on top of this magnificent design. Never mind that aerial shots reveal plenty of available space on other roofing areas and on other associated buildings.
Our team is planning a revisit using the very same camera and lens that was used originally, the Nikon FM which is still in our archives. The posted signs seemed to be indicating that late evening visits are not permitted. It may need to be a winter shoot when it is dark early and we shoot guerilla style. Keep an eye on this space.
Above: Gorgeous rock work, steel posts with horizonal slats, and dual sconce treatments make for a gorgeous mid-century commercial building near Upland. This is actually merely a test shot for a future night time shoot, but we liked it so much as is we are publishing it. Unfortunately, the building's current owners are not running those gorgeous sconces, and evening lighting is accomplished via absolutely garish and bright spot lights scattered about carelessly. The "thrusting skyward"' look of this shot, with the glow of the sun at the top right, adds additional appeal.
